4 People, Including 7-Year-Old, Killed in Maine Crash

Police in Berwick, Maine have released additional information about the crash that killed four people, including a child, and injured four others on Saturday.

The collision happened after a driver lost control of his vehicle following an improper pass into the path of another car.

Emergency crews responded around 1:31 p.m. Saturday to the two-vehicle crash on Portland Street (Route 4) in Berwick.

Police say 31-year-old Robert Howard, of Buxton, was driving a 1994 Honda Civic with three passengers when he made an improper pass, lost control and slid into the path of a 2014 Ford Explorer where they collided. Forty-six-year-old Hope Stamps, of Woburn, Massachusetts, was driving the Ford Explorer, and she had three passengers in her vehicle, as well.

Three male occupants from the Honda Civic were pronounced dead at the scene, including Howard and two of his passengers, 29-year-old Kevin Clark of North Berwick and 7-year-old Davin Clark.

The fourth Honda occupant, 22-year-old K-La Scott, of Gorham, Maine, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Barbara Allen, 73, of Wells, Maine, who was in Stamps' Ford Explorer, was pronounced dead at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire.

The two other passengers in Hope Stamps' car were Eurie Stamps, 49, of Woburn, and 17-year-old Shannon Stamps.

Hope, Eurie and Shannon Stamps suffered non-life threatening injuries in the collision.

A woman who lives near where the crash happened described the chilling moment she heard the collision.

"While I was upstairs painting, I heard the loudest boom I've ever heard in my life, and it shook the building. And my grandfather out back said it shook his house, too," she recalled. "The car was completely in half, only held together by the emergency break cable."

The crash is under investigation.
