Two young men are being lauded after they helped rescue an elderly couple moments before their vehicle was struck by an MBTA commuter rail train during Thursday's major snowstorm.

Crews responded to the crash on Broad Street at about 12:50 p.m. where the driver and passenger, who were not identified, had been helped out of their car after it had become stuck on the track in the snow at the rail crossing.

The good Samaritans, 23-year-old Ryan Saba and 24-year-old Raymond Armstead, had gone looking for food in the storm. They encountered the car on the tracks, saw the train coming and jumped into action.

Police said the impact of the crash threw the vehicle into the air and into nearby gates and a control shed, which exposed live wires.

The couple was not hurt during the incident.
