Suspect in Norwich Home Invasion Dead After Exchanging Gunfire With Police

The suspect in an attempted murder and home invasion over the weekend is dead after a shootout with police officers and Connecticut State Police said their detectives are investigating.

The Norwich Police Department was involved in a search Tuesday for 25-year-old Brandon Uzialko, a suspect in an attempted murder and home invasion on Quarto Road in Norwich Saturday.

Police said Uzialko entered a home on Quarto Road Saturday, with knives and possibly a handgun, and stabbed a man inside several times. 

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in intensive care.

During the search for him, Uzialko and Norwich police officers exchanged gunfire around 7 p.m. Tuesday, then Uzialko ran off, police said.

Uzialko and was located several hours later in the area of 13 Prospect St. and he  was pronounced dead at the scene. It's not clear how he died.

NBC Connecticut reporters said they saw military style humvees, officers in camouflage and spotlights lighting up spaces between homes while the search was ongoing.

Connecticut State, Groton Town and Ledyard police were assisting Norwich officers.

Detectives from Eastern District Major Crime have assumed the investigation.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an examination to determine cause and manner of death.
