Police Searching for Suspect After 2 People Shot in Chelsea, Massachusetts

Two people were shot in Chelsea, Massachusetts Wednesday night.

The double shooting happened around 9:25 p.m. in the area of Chestnut Street, near Second Street.

Both male victims were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with injuries to their lower extremities. The victims, who are 18 and 27 years old, do not appear to have life-threatening injuries, according to the Chelsea police chief.

Chelsea police are searching for the suspect, who fled on foot after the shooting.

Police say this was an isolated incident and that the suspect and victims know each other.

A mother whose 7-year-old son was sleeping upstairs when the shooting happened says she was scared after hearing multiple gun shots.

"I was upstairs watching TV and then you know you just heard one and you're thinking, no that couldn't be, and then four more went off and, me I just didn't look out the window because I was scared but as soon as it ended, all you hear was the cops coming and I just knew something wasn't right," Yesenia Dejesus said.

Detectives were still on scene late Wednesday night, canvassing the neighborhood and interviewing witnesses. They are also going up to businesses in the area looking for surveillance video.

The shooting remains under investigation.
