A suspect who bailed out of a car during a pursuit in Quincy, Massachusetts is facing drug and other charges after he was arrested on Thursday.
State police said a trooper was patrolling the area of West Squantum Street in Quincy just before noon when he observed a BMW with a Massachusetts registration that did not have an inspection sticker. The trooper attempted to stop the BMW, but the vehicle instead accelerated and crossed the center yellow line into oncoming traffic.
State police said oncoming vehicles had to come to a stop or turn over the center line themselves to avoid being struck by the suspect. The trooper continued to chase the suspect, at which time the BMW came to a stop on Safford Street and the driver got out and ran off.
The trooper gave chase on foot but lost sight of the suspect on Small Street. A resident told police she had seen a man walk through her backyard and jump over a fence onto the grounds of the Montclair Elementary School.
Other responding troopers and Quincy police officers responded and established a perimeter around the school and the surrounding facility. Eventually, state police said a trooper who was in a cruiser saw a man matching the suspect's description come out of a backyard and jump into a parked FedEx truck with the driver still inside. The trooper accelerated toward the truck, reached the suspect, and took him into custody.
State police said the suspect, Raymond Clair, 42, of Cambridge, is facing charges of drug possession, operating after suspension and failure to stop for police. A search of the BMW he was driving revealed multiple pieces of a white substances believed to be crack cocaine, police said.
A check of his driver's license also showed that it had been suspended for numerous reasons, including reckless operation, being a habitual traffic offender and multiple narcotics violations.
