Police Seek Vehicle That Caused Crash with Cruiser

The maroon-colored Jeep left the scene of the crash on Interstate 89

Police are looking for a vehicle that caused a crash involving a Vermont State Police cruiser on Friday morning.

Vermont State Police said a state trooper was driving north in the passing lane behind several vehicles on Interstate 89 in Waterbury just south of Exit 10 when a vehicle, also traveling in the passing lane, abruptly pulled into a U-turn. This forced several vehicles in the passing lane to take evasive action, and the trooper's cruiser was struck by another motorist attempting to avoid the sudden stop in traffic.

The vehicle that caused the crash left the scene, speeding out of the U-turn and heading south on I-89.

No one was injured, and damage to the vehicles involved was minor.

The vehicle is described as a maroon-colored newer model Jeep with Maine plates. The last three digits of the license plate are "AES."

Anyone who sees this vehicle is asked to call Vermont State Police at 802-229-9191.
