Police Seize Over a Dozen Weapons, Explosives From Massachusetts Home

A Massachusetts man is under arrest after a stash of guns, ammunition, explosives and marijuana were found in his home over the weekend.

Edward Fitzgerald III, 51, of Hopedale, is now facing more than 20 weapon and drug related charges.

Hopedale Police said they responded to a home on Highland Street around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday after receiving multiple reports of gunshots coming from the area. Witnesses told police that they saw a black hatchback drive away from the area after they heard the gunshots.

Officers approached the residence and attempted to make contact with the occupants.

Upon further investigation, police said they learned that Fitzgerald was in possession of multiple marijuana plants, firearms, grenades, artillery shells, mortar rounds, large caliber bullets and explosive devices.

The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was called in and was able to determine that the explosives were inert.

It was not immediately clear if Fitzgerald had an attorney.
