Police: Sgt. Hurt in Crash With Drunk Driver

A 21-year-old Massachusetts woman was drunk when she crashed into a cruiser early Saturday morning and injured a police sergeant in Pepperell, Massachusetts, authorities said.

Rosemary Miller of Chelmsford was arrested after a crash with Pepperell Police Sgt. Nick Parker just before 12:30 a.m. on Main Street. Police say Miller did not slow down at the intersection of Main Street, Carter Street and Pleasant Street, slamming her Honda Accord into the front driver's side of Parker's fully-marked Ford Explorer.

The police cruiser skidded off the road about 150 feet - officials say it almost hit a dry cleaning shop and some gas meters. Miller's car spun about 270 degrees, according to police.

Police say Parker was temporarily entrapped, but a passerby helped get him out through the passenger side. He was taken to Nashoba Valley Medical Center with minor injuries and is now recovering at home.

Miller is charged with OUI, negligent operation and failure to yield. Witnesses told police a male passenger in her car fled on foot.

"We are aware of the passenger's identity, but why he ran remains under investigation," Pepperell Police Chief David Scott said in a statement.

Miller is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
