Police: Taxi Crashed After Attack on Cabbie

A cab driver in Portland, Maine, was attacked by a passenger Saturday night, according to authorities

Authorities continue to investigate a weekend assault on a Portland cab driver that caused him to crash into a tree.

Police say the driver picked up a fare on Forest Avenue at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday.

The passenger attacked the driver and demanded money, but the driver lost control and crashed into a tree.

Police say the passenger and the cabbie got out of the vehicle and continued to fight. The fare drew a gun, but then ran off.

The taxi driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the hospital.

The assailant was described a male in his mid-20s with a shaved head and possibly a beard and mustache. There had been no arrests as of Sunday night.
