Police, U.S. Coast Guard Respond to Boat Crash in Vineyard Haven Outer Harbor

Tisbury police arrested one individual in relation to the accident.

Police responded to a early morning report of a boat crash in Vineyard Haven outer harbor on August 15.

Around 3:05 a.m., Tisbury, Massachusetts officers received a report of an unmanned boat in the West Chop area.

Five minutes later, Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts police arrived at the beach on Temahigan Ave and responded to a report of a boat crash. Officers found a 26-foot center console that had come out of the water and crashed onto shoreline rocks.

Oak Bluffs and Tisbury officers worked with the U.S. Coast Guard to investigate the accident and found that two individuals were allegedly operating the boat when it collided with another boat that was anchored. Officers believe the impact from the collision caused the two individuals to go overboard, while the boat was still operating.

According to police, the two individuals boarded another boat after going overboard. The U.S. Coast Guard were able to locate the individuals and bring them back to shore. Both did not seek medical treatment.
