A Boston Uber driver has been arrested after a reported sexual assault.

Massachusetts State Police arrested Daudah Mayanja, 37, of Waltham on Saturday. The arrest came after police received a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted on Storrow Drive near the Hatch Memorial Shell in Boston at around 1 a.m., according to police.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on Mayanja, who is a citizen of the African nation of Uganda.

Mayanja was arrested on two counts of rape. He was booked at the Brighton barracks before he was transferred to the Boston barracks. He is being held on $100,000 bail -- an increase from $25,000 after he was initially arrested -- and is scheduled to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court Monday.

The victim was an adult woman, according to police. She was brought to a hospital for treatment.

An Uber spokesperson released the following statement:

"What's been reported is horrible and something no one should ever go through. We stand ready to support law enforcement with their investigation."

Uber announced a new safety feature on the app where riders can connect directly through 911. This alerts emergency services of the exact location on a map and as an address.

With GPS technology, each tip is recorded with two-way accountability for both drivers and passengers.

State police crime scene services personnel and a state police chemist collected potential evidence for forensic analysis.
