Police: Work Truck Strikes, Kills Bicyclist

The bicyclist, 58-year-old Thomas Fazio of Methuen, was pronounced dead at the scene

Authorities in Massachusetts are investigating after a work truck struck and killed a bicyclist.

Methuen police say it happened just after 1 p.m. Tuesday on Route 110 at the northbound off-ramp for I-495.

A preliminary investigation by state police indicated that the bicyclist, operating a motorized bicycle, was on the sidewalk adjacent to Route 110 westbound next the truck. Authorities said both were stopped for a red light. When the light turned green, both the bicyclist and truck started forward and for unknown reasons, the bicyclist came off the sidewalk and into the roadway striking the passenger side of the truck.

The bicyclist, 58-year-old Thomas Fazio of Methuen, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of family.

The truck operator, a 29-year-old man from Hudson, New Hamphshire, remained at the scene. His identity will not be released.

The crash remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
