Man Brandishes Gun During Road Rage Incident on I-93

A road rage incident on Interstate 93 in Dorchester on Wednesday morning has resulted in the arrest of one man for brandishing a gun at another motorist.

Daniel Bates, 33, of Avon, Massachusetts, was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

Massachusetts State Police first responded to a call around 7:45 a.m. for an incident that started on I-93 South in Milton. Braintree police later located the two cars on Hancock Street. 

Bates allegedly showed the other motorist a gun while the other motorist, 42-year-old Melcher Montes of Boston, allegedly showed Bates a knife. Montes reported the incident. Charges are still being considered against him.

The suspect is a dispatcher for Suffolk University Police and Security, the school said, adding that he is not authorized to carry a firearm on campus or while on duty. School officials are reviewing the allegations and working to determine "proper discipline."

Bates was being held at the State Police barracks in South Boston and was arraigned at Dorchester District Court on Wednesdsay afternoon.
