Police in Falmouth, Massachusetts Urge Residents to Shelter in Place Due to Storm Damage

Police in one Cape Cod town are urging residents to consider sheltering in place due to the massive amount of downed wires and trees around town.

"100+ reports of downed wires/trees and more are coming in," Falmouth police said on Facebook Tuesday. "Please strongly consider sheltering in place."

Many roads are also impassable due to downed trees, wires and utility poles.

More than 50 percent of the town's electric customers are currently without electricity, according to police. Statewide, about 180,000 are without power.

No shelter has been opened in town yet, police said, but Town Hall and the Recreation Center have been opened as warming centers.
