Pond Drowning Victim Identified

Jeremiah Zarty, 18, was swimming near the Arcadia Management Area with four friends Saturday afternoon when he went under the water.

A Warwick, Rhode Island, man drowned in Browning Pond in Exeter Saturday afternoon according to Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management police.

On Sunday, DEM identified the victim as Jeremiah Zarty, 18, of Warwick.

Zarty was swimming near the Arcadia Management Area with four friends Saturday afternoon when he went under the water. Two of his friends pulled him from the water and began CPR. Exeter EMS arrived and transported him to Kent County Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:17 p.m.

The DEM says the cause of the drowning is still under investigation and an autopsy will take place on Monday.
