Bernie Sanders may be busy running for the Democratic presidential nomination, but not too busy to carry on what's become a tradition for him in his home state.

Sanders' Senate office has announced his sixth annual State of the Union essay contest, in which Vermont high school students write about what they see as the most pressing issues facing the country.

Sanders says the contest is an opportunity for students to describe what issues they would prioritize if they were president.

Students are invited to write 250 to 500 words by a Jan. 8 deadline. More information can be found on Sanders' Senate website.
