Price Agreed To For New NH-Maine Bridge

Officials say $158.5M construction cost agreement is major milestone

The Maine and New Hampshire departments of transportation have reached a tentative price agreement for replacement of a bridge connecting the two states.

Officials say the $158.5 million construction cost agreement with Cianbro Corp. of Pittsfield, Maine, is a major milestone for the new Sarah Mildred Long Bridge. Construction is scheduled to start late this year with the new bridge expected to open in August 2017.

The bridge, connecting Kittery, Maine, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, was designed with long open spans using eleven fewer piers than the existing bridge. In addition, faster and fewer openings of the bridge due to its increased height for marine traffic means there is less disruption to the traveling public.
