Providence, RI Police Officer Injured After Alleged DUI Driver Hits Cruiser: Report

The Providence police officer was taken to Roger Williams Medical Center for minor injuries

A Providence, Rhode Island police officer was reportedly hospitalized Friday following an early morning crash involving an alleged DUI driver.

The officer was in a police cruiser when the crash happened at about 2 a.m. near the intersection of Amherst and Julian streets, WJAR reports. Authorities reportedly said the alleged DUI driver ran a stop sign and crashed into the passenger side of the cruiser.

The driver and two passengers were not injured in the crash, but the officer was taken to Roger Williams Medical Center for minor injuries.

The driver, who has not been identified, is facing a charge of driving under the influence and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning in Providence District Court.
