"Purple Rain," Prince's biggest box office hit, will be playing at select AMC Theaters in the wake of the iconic singer's death on Thursday.

Among the 87 theaters across the country that will be showing the film are AMC Loews Boston Common, AMC Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers and AMC Methuen in Massachusetts and AMC Plainville in Connecticut. It will play from Saturday, April 23 through Thursday, April 28.

"Purple Rain" opened in 1984. It was the first of Prince's three movies, followed by "Under the Cherry Moon" in 1986 and "Graffiti Bridge" in 1990. Prince won an Oscar for best song score for the movie's soundtrack.

The semi-autobiographical rock musical focuses on a promising young musician, played by Prince.
