A Rhode Island fire chief who was hospitalized for more than two weeks after a motorcycle accident in Massachusetts has died.
The Chepachet Fire Department in Glocester announced on Facebook on Tuesday that Chief Robert Dauphinais had died.
The 50-year-old Dauphinais was taken to Boston Medical Center with a traumatic brain injury after the crash into a traffic island and road sign in Wrentham, Massachusetts on July 7.
An investigation determined that he suffered a stroke prior to the crash. His wife, a passenger on the motorcycle, was less seriously hurt. Both were wearing helmets.
The department's statement says Dauphinais joined the department 30 years ago and "rose through the ranks through hard work and commitment."
Funeral arrangements are pending.
