RI Teacher, Coach Accused of Punching Wife

A high school teacher and coach in East Providence, Rhode Island has been charged with punching his wife.

Authorities charged 36-year-old Michael Solitro Jr. with domestic simple assault following his arrest on Sunday.

Authorities say they found his wife holding an ice pack to her face early Sunday and that there was a small amount of blood. She was treated at a hospital and later released.

Solitro is a teacher and girls basketball coach at East Providence High School.

Superintendent Kathryn Crowley says he has been placed on paid administrative leave from both positions pending an investigation.

Solitro remains free on $1,000 personal recognizance. He declined to comment to The Providence Journal when contacted at home on Monday.
