Region Facing Chance of Light Wintry Mix

There’s much less rain and snow around Wednesday morning, but we still have patchy, black ice in pretty much the same area we had it the previous morning.

The problem is that Tuesday night was humid with a low temperature near 32 degrees and fog. The ground never had a chance to dry out and was already cold and that’s the reason road crews are out on the job once again Wednesday morning. The front step and the walk to the car are going to be especially slippery.

There’s a bit of an upper-level low pressure system moving in Wednesday, combined with a storm at sea that’s generating another day of light wintry mix, so winter jackets and hats are the order.

Temperatures are a little colder than Tuesday holding around 32 degrees north, and near 40 degrees south. The mix is coming in scattered rain and snow showers. For the most part, snow is melting on contact with the pavement because most temperatures are just above freezing, but in the hills we do have a 1-to-2-inch snowfall possible.

Wind is light and variable. The sky should clear Wednesday night, with some patchy fog and frost once again. There may be some isolated black ice but a better start is expected Thursday. With weak high pressure over New England, Thursday is our sunny day with temperatures close to 50 degrees.

The next front comes in on Friday. Clouds race in and temperatures should jump to the lower 50s in eastern New England before rain showers sweep from west to east. We’ll turn cold behind the front pretty quickly, so we may have rain showers change to snow showers west by sunset.

Wind from the southwest gusting at 15 to 20 mph will shift and come in from the northwest 20 to 30 mph at night.

It’s a fresh batch of cold, dry air from Canada Friday night and Saturday. With sunshine for most of Saturday, temperatures will be in the 30s to low 40s south, 20s to low 30s north.

Another weather system races in Saturday night with clouds returning. A mix of rain and snow are likely Sunday. It’s a little early to make the call on rain-snow lines, but the higher elevations may receive another few inches of snow during the day into the evening.

The Patriots game is likely cool and damp, with a slight chance of snow instead of rain. Highs Sunday in the 30s to low 40s.

Monday should turn fair and seasonable with a temperature back in the 40s. The weather should remain quiet Tuesday also with temperatures again in the 40s to near 50 degrees.

There’s going to be a significant storm crossing the nation on travel day Wednesday. Clouds increase in New England with the temperature in the 40s to low 50s. The timing is still difficult but it looks like we may have rain and or snow Wednesday night into Thursday, with much colder air coming in Thanksgiving Day.

The timing remains highly uncertain, so will be sure to track updates here in our First Alert 10-Day Forecast.
