Report: Patriots File Tampering Charges Against Texans
    NBC Sports - Boston
Is a battle for Nick Caserio shaping up between Patriots and Texans?

The New England Patriots have reportedly filed tampering charges against the Houston Texans for attempting to hire Nick Caserio as their general manager, according to ESPN.

Citing league sources, ESPN's Adam Schefter said the NFL is now expected to gather information to open an investigation.

The NFL's anti-tampering policy prohibits any interference by a team with "the employer-employee relationship of another club or any attempt by a club to impermissibly induce a person to seek employement with that club or with the NFL."

Caserio has been the Patriots director of player personnel since 2008, but he and head coach Bill Belichick share personnel duties, with Belichick getting the final say.

The Texans abruptly fired general manager Brian Gaine last week, less than 18 months after he took the job.

The team announced the move Friday with a statement from team owner Cal McNair, who said only that "while the timing may be unusual, this decision was made in the best interest of the organization in our quest to build a championship team."

Gaine was hired to replace Rick Smith in January 2018. The Texans went 11-5 in his first season in charge after he spent the 2017 as vice president of player personnel for the Buffalo Bills.
