Pedestrian Struck, Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash

Police have identified the pedestrian and are investigating the accident.

Police in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, say a pedestrian was struck and killed in a two-vehicle crash early Monday morning.

Police say the incident happened on Lafayette Road at the Mckinnon's Plaza at 6 Monday morning.

Responding units determined that a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by 38-year-old Aaron Legassie of Rochester, New Hampshire, and a 1988 Chevrolet Van operated by 56-year old Mark Docorcy of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, were both traveling southbound.

A pedestrian identified as Timothy Morrison, 51, of Portsmouth, attempted to cross Route 1 near the Southgate Plaza.

Initial investigation shows that Mr. Morrison ran into the Jeep Cherokee which knocked him to the ground. He was then subsiquently run over by the Chevrolet Van and became entagled in the under carriage.

Mr. Morrison was pronounced deceased at the scene by Laura Foley, New Hampshire Assistant Deputy Medical Examiner.

The southbound side of Lafayette Road is being diverted through the plaza. Officials say to expect significant delays.

The investigation is being handled by the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit with the assistance of the Portsmouth Police Department.

Officials do not believe that speed, drugs, alcohol, or driver distractions were factors in the accident but the crash is still under investigation.
