A sound like gunfire prompted a lockdown at Pease Air National Guard Base in New Hampshire Tuesday, but authorities determined there was no threat.

The New Hampshire National Guard received reports of noises that sounded like gunfire at Building 100 on the base in Newington around 11:30 a.m., the guard said.

But after conducting a search, authorities determined that no threat existed, and at about 12:40 p.m., an "all-clear" was issued.

No injuries were reported, and authorities don't yet know what triggered the five different reports of gunfire in the building, but the investigation is ongoing.

"I can only speculate. We do have a lot of construction going on on the base, but we're looking into it," said Col. John Pogorek, commander of the 157th Air Refueling Wing.

Earlier, the New Hampshire National Guard said in a statement that it "treated the incident with extreme precaution, and the utmost safety of our community in mind."
