    3 Firefighters Injured in South Boston Fire

    An investigaiton is underway for a fire that injured three firefighters and two others.

    Two residents and three firefighters were hospitalized Tuesday after a fire broke out at a 3-story building in South Boston.

    Firefighters responded around 8 p.m. to 31 Mercer St., where the fire had broken out. The fire was on the third floor, where crews rescued one of the residents.

    All five people who were hurt were taken to hospitals by Boston EMS. None of their injuries are life-threatening.

    Five residents were displaced in the fire. Officials estimate it caused about $800,000 in damages.

    As of 8:45 p.m., the heavy fire had been knocked down, Boston Fire tweeted. The department described Mercer Street as a narrow road lined with cars, noting that it was difficult to access. Crews had to run multiple lines.

    Police were on scene to divert traffic in the area.

    Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
