On Monday afternoon the MBTA Fiscal and Management Control Board voted to increase fares by 9.22% and riders were not happy.
The change will take effect July 1.
The decision comes just a week after the board also voted to cut late night weekend service.
Riders took to Twitter to share their frustrations about the fare hikes.
