Boston Police Close Roads to Protect Trick-or-Treaters

Police in Boston's Back Bay were urged to be vigilant on Halloween, hours after a deadly terror attack was carried out using a truck in New York.

In Boston, several popular trick-or-treat hot spots were closed off to vehicles this Halloween in an effort to keep cars away from high-volume areas so that people were as safe as possible.

The road closures were already scheduled ahead of Tuesday's tragedy in New York.

"The vast majority of people don't want to do something bad," said Andrew Custard, who took his family trick-or-treating in the Back Bay. "You trust in that, and we trust in our neighbors."

Parents say they wouldn't keep their kids from making Halloween memories, but most had plans in place to keep each other from harm.

"Before we leave the house, we put the rules out there," said Nichole Starr. "Stick together, look before your cross."

For Taylor Martinez, she did think twice about trick-or-treating in such a crowded area because of the truck rampage in New York City earlier in the day.

"You got to hope for the best when you go out on nights like tonight," said Martinez. "It's something we discussed."

Martinez says she wants her little Incredible Hulk to enjoy festive events.

"We don't want him to miss Halloween, and we don't want him to grow up afraid," said Martinez.
