Armed Fugitive Surrenders in NH Mobile Home Standoff

A man believed to have committed an armed burglary while on probation was surrounded in a mobile home in Rochester, New Hampshire, Friday and arrested after an hourslong standoff.

Police believed Jody A. Shea, a 50-year-old connected to Massachusetts and Georgia, had a weapon, and he was also wanted in a recent domestic violence incident in Rochester, the Rochester Police Department said.

The area around the mobile home on Joshua Street was evacuated around noon as officers, including members of a SWAT team, set up a perimeter. Police said they believed he had a gun, and he was later found with a shotgun.

Negotiators reached Shea, who police believed was determined not to be taken into custody, and convinced him to surrender, which he did about 3:25, according to police. No one was hurt in the incident.

He was arrested on three charges from the alleged Aug. 2 domestic violence incident, including assault; one charge of fleeing justice, out of Georgia, and a felony charge of possessing a shotgun from Friday's incident.

Shea was being held without bail pending a hearing in Stafford Superior Court on Monday. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
