A rotted tree collapsed onto a busy road Tuesday night in Hudson, New Hampshire, smashing into an SUV and bursting into pieces.

The incident happened at about 6 p.m. on Lowell Road.

The woman driving the SUV, who police said is from Londonderry, walked away unscathed.

"It just blew up," said eyewitness Evan O’Hanian. "The car was very badly damaged."

A surveillance camera mounted on the roof of Stellar Motor Group, which is across the street, captured the moment the tree fell.

"We saw the car in the middle of the road, the windshield smashed, the whole front end smashed, the roof was smashed," said O’Hanian, who works at the car lot.

Police said the driver is lucky to have survived.

"Maybe a half second later it would have hit the roof of her car, and then who knows what the results were," said Hudson police Capt. Bill Avery.
