2 People Dead Following Wrong-Way Crash on Route 3 in Chelmsford

Two New Hampshire residents are dead following a high-speed wrong-way crash early Monday morning on Route 3 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

Massachusetts State Police first received reports of a 2014 Nissan Altima traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph at 1:28 a.m. The high-speed driver, a 42-year-old woman from Nashua, was reportedly driving south in the northbound lanes.

Less than five minutes after receiving those reports, officials received calls about a collision just before Exit 32. The Nissan had struck a 2010 Dodge Avenger that was being driven by a 21-year-old Hudson man.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the Dodge was taken to Lowell General Hospital, where he later died.

The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The left lane and both right lanes were closed for more than three hours as a result of the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
