Roxbury Plays Host to Father's Day Peace Walk

The fourth-annual Father's Day Unity Peace Walk took place in Roxbury on Sunday morning, an event aimed at people coming together for a safer community.

The two-mile walk begins and ends at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Seaver Street in Franklin Park.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans and representatives from both the Bruins and Red Sox attended the event.

Evans said that summer is usually the most violent time of the year, and he wants to recognize dads that are being mentors for their kids all year round -- as well as mothers, who are acting in the capacity of both a mother and a father.

"We love breaking negative perceptions and negative views that inner city fathers don't care, that's wrong," Boston Police Chief William Gross said.
