The Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women is always run Columbus Day weekend with thousands of participants and runners geared up once again Monday.
Monday is an ideal day weather-wise for a run more than 6,000 runners will take to the streets surrounding Boston Common, all to celebrate women.
Earlier in the day the girls had their turn joined by the boys too for a 1K run.
The event has been a Columbus Day tradition in Boston for 39 years.
Many run to raise money for a variety of causes but the main motivation here is women's empowerment.
There are several road closures that will affect drivers in the area surrounding the Common until 2 Monday afternoon.
Charles Street is closed from Boylston Street to Beacon Street.
Beacon Street from Charles to Clarendon
Boylston from Arlington to Charles Street is closed on the public garden side.
