Runners Prepare to Hit Boston's Streets

The best known marathon in the world is Monday. Saturday's BAA 5K was just a warm up to 26.2 miles of pavement between Hopkinton and Boston that keeps runners coming back for for more.

Runners have been arriving in town all weekend. Thirty thousand runners are set to take part in this year's race, and they come from all over. For some it's their first time, others have done this many times before. Either way, they all have one goal in mind: Cross the finish line on Boylston Street.

For the first time the BAA has painted a 600-yard blue line on Boylston Street, giving runners the most direct route to the finish. Boston's police commissioner helped with the ceremonial line painting Sunday morning and he says all the necessary security measures are in place.

Security measures are going to place and more than 9,000 volunteers will help make sure the 120th running of the Boston Marathon goes off without a hitch.

The marathon is full of history, but 2016 marks yet another milestone - it's the 50th year women have been allowed to participate.

If you can't make to the race Monday, Sunday's a great day to come and check it out as the energy and atmosphere is always great on the day before the race.
