Police say the driver of a sport utility vehicle hit a telephone pole and a fire hydrant knocking out power to about 3,000 homes in southern Maine.
Police say the crash happened Monday night in South Portland.
Residents in South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, and Portland were left without power after about 7:45 p.m.
Lt. Tom Simonds of the South Portland Police Department has said power was expected to be restored by midnight.
Central Maine Power and FairPoint Communications are replacing the pole.
Police say the Standish driver was not hurt.
