SUV Hits School Bus; Kids, Driver Injured

The bus was taking 12 students from Boothbay Regional Elementary School at the time

Maine authorities say three elementary school children and a motorist were taken to a hospital but not seriously injured after a sport utility vehicle crashed into a school bus.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office told the Portland Press Herald that the SUV heading south Thursday afternoon on a road in Boothbay on the coast of Maine crossed the center line and went into the northbound lane, hitting the bus. The bus was taking 12 students from Boothbay Regional Elementary School at the time.

Sheriff Todd Brackett said the SUV driver and the three students apparently weren't seriously injured.

The SUV had major damage; damage to the school bus was minor.

The sheriff's office didn't immediately release the name of the driver or provide a possible cause for the crash.
