High School Evacuated After ‘Hoax' Device Found

Students at a Massachusetts high school were dismissed for the day after their building was evacuated when a suspicious-looking device was found by a teacher Monday morning.

Law enforcement has determined that the device that triggered the situation was a "hoax," according to a Facebook post from the principal of Sacred Heart High School in Kingston.

The evacuation was first triggered when a teacher found a suspicious looking device in a classroom and alerted the principal. The Kingston police and fire departments, as well as the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office and state police came to the school to investigate.

School staff was ordered to evacuate the building as a precautionary measure. Students were eventually dismissed for the day.

After searching the entire building, law enforcement assured the principal that students and staff were never in danger. Police are continuing to investigate the origin of the hoax device.

Footage from NBC10 Boston's Sky Ranger at the scene during the event showed ambulances along with police and a fire truck with its ladder extended at the facility.
