A wonderful start to our weekend with lots of sunshine and temperatures finally rebounding into the low 40s, closer to average for this time of the year. Today is the pick of the weekend to enjoy outdoors, whether you are headed to a St. Patrick’s Parade or skiing, soak in the sun and don’t forget the shades.
Before you go to bed tonight, make sure to change your clocks as we "spring forward" one hour.
Mainly clear conditions and a light wind will allow temperatures to drop into the teens and 20s overnight, setting the stage as the new system moves in from the west. With that said, most of us will see snow first with areas along the South Coast, Cape and Islands transitioning over to rain by sunrise. While parts of Central New England will get a moderate burst of snow after 5am with accumulations between 1-3 inches, then will see a transition over to freezing rain- up to one tenth of an inch is possible-creating slick and dangerous conditions on the roads, this is why we have issued a First Alert for Sunday morning.
Current timeline is Western New England gets snow by 5am, Central and Northern New England around 7am and Boston between 8am-10am.
Over the course of the day temperatures will rise into the 30s, and even 40s in some spots, so by around noon most of Southern New England will dealing with rain. The same can’t be said for those living north of route 2 corridor, snow and freezing rain will continue into the afternoon before mixing with rain. The snow will continue to fall in Northern New England until late afternoon, with accumulations between 3-6 inches. Sunday won’t be a good day for skiers because gusty winds will be damaging across the mountains.
By dinner time, rain will be tapering off from west to east and the wind will intensify as the area of low pressure departs. Though snow will continue to fall into Maine and the northern mountains.
Sunshine returns Monday with highs near 50 degrees south, while 40s north and it stays breezy. Cooler air settles in for Tuesday and Wednesday, highs will be in the 30s to low 40s. By Thursday, temperatures will increase into the 50s again with even a shot for some spots to hit 60 degrees Friday.
