    Officials Respond to Saugus Gas Leak

    Gas leak happened on Rt. 1 near the old Hilltop Steakhouse restaurant in Saugus, Massachusetts.

    Route one south in Saugus, Massachusetts was shut down Thursday night due to a gas leak near the old Hilltop Steakhouse restaurant.

    Saugus police and fire responded at 9:56 p.m. to the vicinity of 855 Broadway for a report that a gas line was struck.

    Officials determined a high pressure gas line was broken and leaking gas, causing police officers to shut down Route 1 southbound from Walnut Street to the Lynn Fells Parkway.

    Area businesses were notified, and officers ensured the area was safe.

    State police diverted traffic onto the Lynn Fells Parkway to keep drivers moving.
