School Bus Driver Charged With DUI Put on Unpaid Leave

A Lincoln school bus driver charged with driving under the influence has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.

First Student Inc., which employed 27-year-old Ayla Johnson, said Monday it has removed her from service while authorities continue to investigate.

Police were notified by Northern Elementary School staff that they thought a bus driver who pulled up to the school around 3 p.m. Friday had been drinking.

Witnesses told responding officials they observed Johnson stumble out of her vehicle and head into the school building. There were no students on board at the time.

Police say officers found that Johnson smelled strongly of alcohol when they questioned her in the school nurse's office. They say Johnson failed a field sobriety test.

Johnson declined to comment to WJAR-TV.
