School Investigation Finds Teacher Raped, Abused Girls

A Rhode Island private school says an investigation has found that a teacher raped or sexually abused multiple girls in the 1970s.

The Gordon School in East Providence said in a letter Monday it received credible reports about former teacher Andrew D. Cohen, who worked at the elementary and middle school between 1972 and 1977. He's accused of inappropriate touching, digital rape and two rapes. The alleged victims were 11 to 15.

The letter says several girls reported the molestation to the school, but Cohen was not removed until one girl reported to police she had been raped. No criminal charges were brought.

Gordon says the attorney general's office is investigating.

The letter says Cohen denies the allegations. The 69-year-old Cohen told The Providence Journal he didn't want to address the allegations.
