The National Weather Service said Wednesday afternoon a record-breaking temperature of 97 degrees was set in Boston. That temperatures breaks the old record of 96 degrees for this date in 1953.
Wednesday morning’s low temperature in Boston was 81 degrees – not only did this set a record for warmest low temperature for this date, but also goes down in history as the second warmest start ever in the City of Boston.
Of course, the heat is on again Wednesday with heat indices rising over 100 degrees for most Central and Southern New England communities, so concerns of heat stress and exhaustion and dehydration play out again. Be sure to take care of the body and check on those who may be in need of some help, as well as pets.

Some vulnerable record highs this afternoon include Boston’s 96 degrees record, Manchester and Providence at 95 degrees and Burlington, Vermont at 92 degrees.
Another uncomfortably warm and humid night will follow Wednesday night for all but the North Country, where late day and evening thunder provides some relief but may do localized damage.

As temperatures moderate Sunday into Labor Day, mostly dry conditions prevail, though a scattered shower or storm can’t be ruled out on any weekend day.
