The long holiday weekend started off on a quiet note across New England, with a mixture of sun and clouds on Saturday and highs primarily in the 30s and low 40s.

Sunday will start chilly, with lows in the teens and 20s for most, before temperatures climb into the 20s and 30s during the afternoon.

Early sunshine will fade behind increasing clouds as a storm approaches from the south and west. After dark, and especially towards midnight, the storm will get close enough to spread light snow into parts of Central and Southern New England.

That snow will continue into Monday, mixing with rain at times along the South Coast, Cape, and Islands.

The snow will gradually taper off during the afternoon as the storm pulls away, leaving behind 1-3” in many spots.

Because it’s a holiday during school vacation week in many districts, there likely won’t be as many travel issues as we’d see otherwise.

Tuesday is a quiet day, then another storm comes up from the south late Wednesday into Thursday. Right now it looks like that may start as snow, before changing to a mix or rain in some spots.

We’ll also watch the tides during that mid-week storm, since they’re already high due to the moon cycle. Minor coastal flooding is likely, but at this point it doesn’t look like this would pose a major threat to the coastline.
