Security Heightened for Halloween Weekend in Salem, Massachusetts

With Halloween weekend officially underway in Salem, Massachusetts, and tens of thousands in Witch City Saturday night, police are stepping up their patrols to keep you safe.

The city was packed on a night that some people have been preparing all year for.

When the sun goes down in Salem, out come the screams and snarls where Halloween weekend welcomes costumed creatures from near and far.

Some people are really getting into character.

It took three hours of painting to turn Heather Marichal into Gumora from "Guardians of the Galaxy."

And with thousands of people celebrating, basically taking over the city, police are having their presence felt with about 200 uniformed officers on the streets.

Local and state police can be seen on the street corners. Officers are also on bikes, and some even are patrolling in plain clothes.

And if you are driving to Salem in the days before Halloween, prepare for road closures, as police have blocked off some streets near the center of town.
