Two men are dead after a vehicle fleeing from police in Enfield, Connecticut hit a mail truck just over the state line on Route 5 in Longmeadow, Massachusetts Thursday.

Enfield police said they were chasing a driver in a pickup who was speeding, appeared to be intoxicated and would not stop for police.

The pickup driver and the mail carrier were both killed in the crash.

The U.S. Postal Service identified the postal worker involved as Dan Nacin, a 40-year employee of the agency who worked out of the Enfield Post Office.

Police in Longmeadow, Massachusetts said Nacin was from Enfield and they identified the driver of the pickup as 47-year-old David Cersosimo, of Rocky Hill.

Nacin and Cersosimo were transported to Baystate Medical Center, where they were pronounced deceased, according to Longmeadow police.

Jack Yacteen, of Longmeadow Motorcars, described the scene as “chaotic as chaos can get.”

He had said hello to Nacin moments the crash and saw the postal truck go up in flames.

“All the guy did was go to work and my heart goes out to that guy’s family and his kids,” Yacteen said. “It’s terrible.”

Police said the driver hit one vehicle before hitting the mail truck.

People who were nearby when the crash happened said they heard a loud boom, then saw debris scattered in the road.

“You could see it going by so fast and then it just crashed into the mail truck and dragged it," Justin Anstett, of Springfield, said.

The Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit of Hampden District Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney's Office, the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Longmeadow Police Department are investigating.
