Rounds of downpours, and even some embedded thunderstorms, continue to work through New England this afternoon. Up to 1” of rain has fallen in parts of Northern New England, where the rain started early this morning.

Temperatures remain in the 60s north, with 70s south.

The rain will wind down this evening, and skies will partially clear overnight with lows in the 50s and 60s.

Tuesday brings sunshine and highs in the 70s to around 80. It will be a beautiful day as many students go back to school.

It’s warmer, in the 80s, and more humid on Wednesday. A cold front will come through New England, triggering downpours and storms during the afternoon in particular.

Cooler air flows in on Thursday, with highs in the 60s to around 70. Many will see sunshine, but clouds will linger near the South Coast. A spot shower is also possible there.

By that point Hurricane Dorian will be curving away from North Carolina, and heading northeast. It still seems like the center of the storm will pass south and east of Nantucket.

Regardless of how close it comes, New England will see large waves and a high risk of rip currents. Seas will build as high as 10-20 feet just offshore.

A closer pass would bring a slug of potentially heavy rain and wind gusts 40-60 MPH, particularly to Southeastern Massachusetts.

A track farther offshore would bring only a few showers and not much wind.

Either way it looks like the storm moves fast enough to clear away quickly for the rest of the weekend. Expect a lot of sun both Saturday and Sunday, but it will be cooler with highs in the 60s and low 70s.
