Shark sightings at or near two beaches on Cape Cod caused them to be temporarily closed to swimming Wednesday, including two different sightings on one beach.
That was Nauset Public Beach in Orleans, Massachusetts, which first had a sighting of a white shark eating prey some 100 yards from the beach, closing it for swimming for one hour at 9:45 a.m.
It was closed again about two hours later, when a white shark was spotted some 50 yards from the beach at 11:50 a.m.
Then on Wednesday afternoon, a lifeguard spotted a white shark south of Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro, about 150 yards off shore. Swimmers were ordered out of the water for an hour there as well.
There have been dozens of shark sightings on Cape Cod this year, with more expected into the early fall.
