Shots Ring Out in Roxbury Injuring Man Near Memorial for Fatal Shooting Victim

Wednesday's shooting happened as mourners gathered to make a memorial for Tuesday's victim of violence

Police are investigating a daytime shooting in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood that sent one man to the hospital.

The shooting happened just before 3 p.m. Wednesday on Brinton Street.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where his condition is unknown.

Witnesses said after the man was struck, he collapsed in front of a building about a block away.

"He was on the floor and then I saw blood," said one witness.

The shooting happened just as two dozen people had gathered to create a memorial for another man who had been shot Tuesday afternoon on Crawford Street.

"Everyone was passing out doughnuts with the family and everything and the next thing you know there was a shooting," said Monica Craig. "You know, like 8 shots and everyone just had to run for their lives."

The man in his late 20s shot Tuesday, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition at about 4:30 p.m. and died a few hours later.

An emotional Craig is pleading with area residents to stop the violence.

"These mothers out here are hurting. I wish you all would stop the violence. Stop the shooting! Please! Please stop the shooting, killing each other. It don't make sense," Craig said crying.

Detectives could be seen going door-to-door Wednesday speaking with residents. They also search a backyard for clues.

Anyone with information on either of the shootings is urged to contact Boston Police.
