Fresh air has swept into New England to end the workweek and the difference is palpable.

There is much lower humidity even as temperatures climb well into the 80s. This really limits the chance of showers and thunder, though a reinforcing cold front pushing across Southern New England will touch off a light shower or sprinkle.

The possibility of showers may occur from late afternoon to early evening near and south of the Massachusetts Turnpike. Just as the drier air starts to take hold, humidity pushed a short distance to our south will try to make a comeback. This will result in a clash of air over Southern New England Saturday, leading to the development of showers with embedded thunder.

Morning showers will set up across parts of Western and Central New England, and tend to expand over the day as occasional showers for many. Heavier rain will hit Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. Although, the Cape, the Mountains and Downeast Maine look to stay mostly dry.

By Sunday, the chance of showers and embedded thunder continues and will expand a bit over Cape Cod, but will remain lower in the North Country. With many clouds, both weekend days should hold in the 70s.

The upper-level energy contributing to shower and storm development still will be drifting overhead Monday and Tuesday, so showers and thunder will remain in the forecast. However, increasing breaks of sun will happen by midweek and will bump temperatures up again in our exclusive Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast.
