A Smithfield, Rhode Island resident died early Friday morning in a car crash, reports Rhode Island State Police.
John Jenkins, 65, was driving south on Interstate 295 when his car went into the median and hit several trees around 1:15 a.m. The crash happened near exit 20 in Cumberland.
Jenkins was found dead at the site of the crash. He was the only person in his vehicle, and no other cars were involved.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
